  • Tourism directly contributes $1.44 billion or about 4.9 per cent to Tasmania's Gross Product.
  • Tourism directly and indirectly supports around 38 000 jobs in Tasmania or about 15.8 per cent of total Tasmanian employment - higher than the national average and the highest in the country.

Visitors to Tasmania

  • A total of 1.26 million (1,261,700) people visited Tasmania on scheduled air and sea services during the year ending December 2017, not including cruise ships.
  • These visitors spent a total of 10.78 million nights in Tasmania, at an average length of stay per visitor of 8.5 nights.
  • Visitors spent a total of $2.33 billion on accommodation, attractions, tours, transport and other good and services during this period.
